This Privacy Statement applies to anyone we collect personal information from. It outlines NRAR’s policy in relation to our privacy obligations. It also explains how we manage the personal information that we collect. We understand the importance of protecting personal information.
NRAR’s privacy practices are regulated by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) (PPIP Act) and the Privacy Management Plan. NRAR will only collect personal information for a lawful purpose. That purpose must relate to our primary function as a NSW Government agency. Our function is to enforce natural resources management legislation, as defined in 3(1) of the NRAR Act. NRAR will not collect any more information than is necessary to fulfil these functions.
NRAR will not disclose your personal information without your permission unless required to by law.
Anyone engaged to collect, store, or use personal information on behalf of NRAR must comply with the PPIP Act and the Privacy Management Plan.
NRAR may sometimes engage with other agencies when investigating compliance matters. NRAR will only share your information if it is authorised under the PPIP Act. This includes sharing information under section 16 of the Natural Resources Access Regulator Act 2017 (NSW).

What is personal information?
Your personal information is about you and includes any information or opinion about you. Personal information includes your name, address, phone number, email address, or any information that could identify you.
Some examples of personal information include:
- a written record which may include your name, address, and other details about you
- electronic records, photographs, images, video, or audio footage
- biometric information such as fingerprints, blood, and records of genetic material
Storage of your personal information
We will keep the information you have provided for an appropriate period of time. We will store and dispose of your information according to the Department’s policies, laws, and guidelines as per the NSW State Records Act 1998.
NRAR does everything it can to protect the security of any personal information held, whether it’s stored electronically or in hard copy. Physical measures, such as building security and equipment security, are combined with digital technology to minimise unauthorised access to information.
Disclosure of your personal information
NRAR will not disclose your personal details unless the disclosure is authorised by the PPIP Act and Regulations. We may ask permission to share your information for a specific purpose.
The Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) gives people the right to access information held by a government agency, including electronic information. If a third party asks for information under the GIPA Act that affects your research, business, commercial, professional, financial interests, or your personal information, we will take reasonable steps to seek your views before deciding whether to release the information.
Right of access and right to amend your personal information

The Department of Planning, Housing & Infrastructure currently supports NRAR. If there are any privacy complaints or breaches, the department’s privacy officer will investigate. This is in line with NRAR’s Privacy Management Plan.
